if you have a 3xxx video card like in the T500, now is the perfect time to update your videocard driver to the windows 7 signed 9.3 catalyst drivers! just tested them and they work great. you guys should also give avivo video converter a try (it's bundled with the catalyst control center, look under the basic view). it converts videos substantially faster than other software because it is GPU accelerated! it's only for ATI graphics cards.

i saw some performance increases in fallout 3 and mirror's edge. try it!

Do you know if there is something similar good for the FireGL 5200/Radeon X1600 cards?

it says in the official release notes for 9.3 that x1600 series cards are supported. you should give it a try, just download the windows 7 drivers here http://game.amd.com/us-en/drivers_catalyst.aspx
