I recently was given a few laptops that were to be tossed, one being a R40.
When I tried to boot it, the cpu fan spins and all the lights flick on for a sec, and then only the "lightning strike"/AC light stays on. If the battery is in it at the time, it also stays on. After that, there is no beeps, the cpu fan stops, the screen stays off, and the hard drive spins slowly, without actually reading from the disc. I opened it up to have a better look at what was happening. I reseated the ram, I reseated the cpu and applied new thermal paste, swapped in another cmos battery, I reconnected everything... but nothing.
I even tried to get the laptop to beep by booting without the ram, but nothing.
The hard drive and powersupply are the only new components, everything else is old.
Please help me try to figure out what is wrong.

Re: R40 Boot Issues
Welcome to the forum!
I'm sorry to say that your R40 needs a new motherboard.
Good luck.

Re: R40 Boot Issues
Is there anything that can be done to fix it, I don't mind having to solder if needed. Can you be more specific with what is at fault?

Re: R40 Boot Issues
Motherboard that doesn't even beep when the RAM is pulled out is pretty much dead and gone...
