little blue squares on LCD

Does anyone know what little blue squares on the LCD means? Kind of looks like a "stain".

Without any pictures to go by, what you may be looking at is the result of some physical damage suffered by the screen (i.e., impact scar). For example, if you gently press any area of your screen you'll probably see a halo appear around your fingertip. If you're talking about it being over the entire screen, then I'd say there's something wrong with your video graphics chip.

They are probably pressure marks, especially if you are talking about a flexview screen. The pressure mark is a result of a poke in the screen with your finger, pen etc. There is no way to get rid of a pressure mark. Fortunately, pressure marks are mostly visible in complete back background and not so obvious in other colours.

To avoid geting a pressure mark, NEVER alow anyone to touch your screen. :BAAAD!:

These little blue "squares" are in the top right portion of the screen. They are in a little cluster, taking up a space extending from the right side of the screen in about a 2" long by 1/2" in width. The squares are a light blue in color, are staggered about in the sized space mentioned, and are easily seen on a white, or any light-colored background. If you look to the right side of this post, where the "Font Color Chart" is...these little blue squares I've got on my screen are a tad smaller than the colored squares represented in the font color wheel. These too, were present when I bought this Thinkpad, used, from a seller here on the forum. This unit should be at Memphis' door again this morning, for an "elevated" case as per Customer Advocate Terry McCarthy@Lenovo.

I spoke to Mr. McCarthy personally yesterday, who stated he would follow through on this service call from beginning to end, now that it was considered a RADE call. Strange as how the LCD is stated to have been repaired, but that these blue squares are still present on the screen. The (2) black streaky lines are gone, but not the blue squares, or the warped LCD bezel cover. However, HIS techs are tied up for the next week....but for me to go ahead and sent it back to Memphis again and he would stay on top of it from there (even though he sounded a bit perturbed at getting a call from a customer). But, he was courteous nevertheless. "Flextronics" (Memphis) should have it by this morning. Anyway, at one point, Mr. McCarthy asked me a few questions like;

Did I buy this "new" or "used?
Where these marks on the screen present prior to my sending it to the depot INITIALLY?
Did I state them in my original request for service?


The answers were USED, YES, and YES. I offered him to refer to my original request on IBM's site, where I originally established the repair call so that he could concur with my requests. He started to reply with; "perhaps this issue was a thing they won't cover under my warranty, but yet, he mentioned there was no notation by the "depot" that indicated it wouldn't be covered. I asked "Why wouldn't it be?" Both warranty and accidental damage coverages should be more than enough to cover these issues, wouldn't you agree? sigh... :banghead: .who knows where this is now going to go.

ps....Why is it necessary to remove any hardware/components that are not involved in the repair? Would this be due to let's say...theft?...unauthorized parts swap-outs? How sad is THIS, if it were true. I did not remove any hdd, or any other piece of hardware in it. I did not think this was necessary. :eek: oh my God...I'm not feeling well.

The general consensus when sending off your system to depot repair is to remove everything that you are sure is not responsible for the problem/failure. The biggest item is your hard drive. It contains all of your personal data and programs (which you may or may not have install disks for). For whatever reason, the tech(s) may reload the operating system, wiping out whatever you have. Of course, if you have imaged the drive prior to shipment, then you would be safe. Removing other items such as the memory, battery, Ultrabay device, etc., would protect you in that if the tech(s) honestly forgot to re-install them prior to shipping the system back to you, then it's up to you to prove that they were there in the first place. I've never had the opportunity to send in a Thinkpad for warranty repair but whenever I ship systems, I photograph everything that goes in the box, inside and out, including the sealed box right before it's handed over to USPS, FedEx or UPS. Having pictures of the laptop, hard drive, optical drive, battery, etc., with all of the attached serial numbers is pretty good proof of what was there. This can be used to document to the recipient what's coming, in addition to proving what was shipped and the condition it was in if there's any damage encountered in transit.

I understand what you are saying in the way of added security. But to think that one must disassemble their Thinkpad prior to sending it in for repair in order to be assured that a tech doesn't "forget?" to put the parts BACK, that perhaps he/she may or may not have had a need to touch in the first place?...is such a pity. And, laughable.

I agree with Ray that the HD is the biggest issue. And the repair sheet clearly states that unless you check the box telling them not to replace/re-image your HD, it will be replaced/re-imaged.

In all honesty, taking all the "extra" parts out (hard and media drives, battery) takes about a minute...so why not... :?:
