Windows7 does report more than 2GB correctly. Seems to be different from XP.

Indeed. My Win 7 x64 install reports all 4 GBs of RAM in my ThinkPad, though it can address only 3 GB due to chipset limitation. After Vista SP1 M$ OSes have been adjusted to report the correct amount of installed system memory.
