x60s replacement motherboard - will any/all of these work?
x60s replacement motherboard - will any/all of these work?
Hi Everyone!
I've found many gems of wisdom in these forums, but never really had anything to contribute nor did I have a problem big enough to require asking about it until now. Well, here I am..:-/
Long story short, I have an x60s and I lost my power brick and bought a replacement from China off of ebay (I know- stupid, stupid, stupid.)..It arrived, I plugged it in and was off to the races for about 20 minutes.. made sure everything was doing what it should and powered it off to do a couple errands.. battery was low so I left it plugged in to charge.
Came back about 90 minutes later, pressed the power button and the magic smoke left my laptop through the fan opening. It fried one chip really bad.

The power brick was too hot to touch (burnt my fingers on the darn thing) and I've no doubt it would've melted and maybe even started a fire if left much longer.
My question is, will any of the FRUs listed at http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... 06.html#23
work in my x60s? or just specific ones? it's much easier to search for FRUs on ebay and not miss anything rather than "x60s motherboard" or just my "42T0019" if those others will also work...
best regards, mike
edit: forgot to mention that the power brick showed voltages all over the map when I plugged it in (outside:-) and tested it with the multimeter the next day. I'm guessing it's just a lenovo knock-off even though it really looks like legit IBM..even the sticker is perfect...I don't even know what I'm going to say to the seller..I know the best I'll get is "send it back at your expense and we'll refund your purchase price or replace it if we deem it faulty", and I don't want to get all angry when I email him..(which I probably would)

Re: x60s replacement motherboard - will any/all of these work?
Very sorry to hear of the mishap. All the motherboard you referenced will NOT work. Here are the considerations:
- The X6x motherboards, i.e., the non-X6xs motherboards, will not fit the bottom case of an X6xs.
- The x61s motherboards will fit the X60s bottom case, but the fingerprint reader connector of the X60s palm rest will not reach the connector ... and the fingerprint reader will not work even if you make the cable reach.
- I presume that you know about the WLAN/WWAN "approved" list of cards on the X61 series differs from the X60 series list.
Summary:
In your case, only X60s motherboards will substitute directly. Not any non-s X6x, nor any X61s.
Good luck!

nope, I'll have to do more research I guess:-)EOMtp wrote:Very sorry to hear of the mishap. All the motherboard you referenced will NOT work. Here are the considerations:

Thank you for your reply - Is there any way to tell from that reference page (or any other resource) which of the listed FRUs are actually from x60s's ?EOMtp wrote:Summary:

Re: x60s replacement motherboard - will any/all of these work?
Yes -- let me make it VERY simple: ONLY the motherboards listed to fit machine type 1702 will work.strutin wrote:Is there any way to tell from that reference page (or any other resource) which of the listed FRUs are actually from x60s's ?
On the left of each motherboard FRU# there is a list of machine types that the motherboard will fit. Go through the full list of motherboards and highlight ONLY those where 1702 is listed as one of the machine types for that motherboard..
Re: x60s replacement motherboard - will any/all of these work?
Mine says type 1703-3qk on the clamshell base - should I be looking for 1702 or 1703? or both?
thanks again,
mike
thanks again,

Re: x60s replacement motherboard - will any/all of these work?
Use whichever yields the largest selection, but I think you will find the two sets identical. More precisely, use the union of the two sets.strutin wrote:... should I be looking for 1702 or 1703? or both?
