WTB: New 14.1" SXGA LCD for a T42 (Resolved)

#1 Post by Trixie » Sat Mar 21, 2009 3:39 pm

Before I go crazy trying to determine the honesty of ebay sellers I thought I would ask if anyone can point me to a source for a new 14.1' SXGA LCD panel for a T42. Thanks.

Update: Found a new panel, the Samsung one, on eBay.

Do you want "brand spankin' new" or a used good one?

I already have what I would describe as "a good used one." I'd like to have a new LCD simply as insurance since it's likely these are going to be impossible to replace eventually. I love this computer, aside from the limited graphics memory I honestly don't see any reason to replace it anytime soon.

Try eBay seller thinkpadplus...I'm not affiliated with them, but have been a satisfied customer on more than one occasion.

Trixie:

You should specify whether the SXGA+ LCD you are looking for is for a 14.1" or a 15" T42/p... since 14.1" LCD's wont fit on/in a 15" model, and vice versa...

Anyway, from your signature I assume that you're looking for a spare LCD for your T42 model 2373-B09 and in such case you will find the part number via the 14.1inch LCD service parts - ThinkPad T40/p, T41/p, T42/p where you will see that there are two different manufacturers being the 11P8346 by ID Tech and the 11P8348 by Samsung. Which one of these are the better one? Well, either search this forum for user comments or e.g. see the thread Bought used T41p - screen is rather dim... parts?, more specificly this post and the links pointed to thererin. Maybe you can pick up a dead (and cheap!) T4x on e.g. eBay or via the craigslist... and only use the LCD?

I certainly support George's suggestion about contacting "thinkpadplus" via eBay, but unfortunately they seem to have disappeared, or at least they haven't listed any items at all there for quite some time. You may try contact them via 611 Computers, LLC.

Good luck with getting a vital collection of spares to keep your (wonderful!) T42 alive... I am doing exactly the same! :-)

Thanks for all of the suggestions. Yes, I forgot to specify it's a 14.1" model. I've now edited the original post.
