Hi All,

The internet pages on my laptop are taking a wee bit longer to load! What may be the problem and are there any configuration changes that would improve this situation?

Cheers and best regards,
Ranjit

Hi Leon,

HaHaha! Thank you for your post, and nice to hear from you.

I am using IE6. Let me know what I should do to correct this minor problem.

Cheers and best regards,
Ranjit

Probably your ISP. Ping their address and look at the return/latency times. Should be around 10ms for broadband. If it's 50msec or above, you have a slow connection. Try also clearing your browser's cache (Tools, internet options................)

Hi,

I am on a 'so-called' broadband service from the local telecom in Malaysia. I have actually subscribed for a 1Mbps line, but get very much less!

I have just pinged my ISP and I get a round trip time of 52ms

I tweak XP and IE frequently.

Cheers and best regards,
Ranjit

Download Firefox from Mozilla.org and see if you can get better page loading times, as I have had better experience with it in terms of how fast it renders the page, and you can adjust it better to not wait for all data to download to display, etc.

by all means, use Firefox for many more reasons other that speed, and after yoyu get it, tweak it for page loading speed with these instructions:

1.Type "about:config" into the address bar and hit return. Scroll down and look for the following entries:

network.http.pipelining network.http.proxy.pipelining network.http.pipelining.maxrequests

Normally the browser will make one request to a web page at a time. When you enable pipelining it will make several at once, which really speeds up page loading.

2. Alter the entries as follows:

Set "network.http.pipelining" to "true"

Set "network.http.proxy.pipelining" to "true"

Set "network.http.pipelining.maxrequests" to some number like 30. This means it will make 30 requests at once.

3. Lastly right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer. Name it "nglayout.initialpaint.delay" and set its value to "0". This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it receives.

If you're using a broadband connection you'll load pages MUCH faster now!
