I searched this site and i think i read every post on this problem ..
my problem seems to be a bit unique in several ways..here is how it goes.
My A31 finally died after the VGA chip came loose enough..i tried the heatgun reflow twice,nothing...
From fleabay i bought another "parts" machine they said booted to bios, didnt say the "parts" were bad !
for testing i used parts from my good working unit so no questions..one stick memory, hard drive, battery,NOTHING else in the machine..cmos battery keeps memory but is a little low on voltage.
start with ac adapter only,,critical battery error 0901,shuts down to hibenate, when unplug adapter can hear hd spin down..put battery in before unplug ac and then unplug ac,no sound, drop battery and again hear hd spin down.
now put in battery,,no start at all..
unplug ac with only battery in,no start..
ac in and unhook battery,,no start..
unplug ac,drop battery, put both back in and normal start..after each normal windows shutdown or any shutdown,BOTH power sources have to be disconnected then back to normal start.
unplug ac,drop battery, battery only in and normal start.
in windows: with ac and battery in,"power meter" shows running on battery BUT if i unplug ac and let batery run down and put ac back in it shows running on battery and charges battery back to full.
take out battery,"power meter" shows running on ac..
put battery back in and shows running on battery.
observation:it seems needing to unhook both power sources it seems something may still be "latched" sensing power still present..maybe something not draining and keeping the "latch" in place..or something not switching ??
options: putting in a momentary switch to drain power before startup ?
where could that be hooked to ?
using responses from members to help fix the problem ?
sure is a PITA to have to unplug ac and drop battery and put both back in before each startup...
any suggestions ?????????????????
thank you.

Try the old woodoo: remove the battery, hard and media drives, unplug the adapter. Press the "power" button 10 times in a row, holding it down for 10 seconds each time, and 30 seconds the last time around.
Plug the adapter back in and try to power on.
Let us know how it went...
Good luck.

Re: "critical low battery" error, again !
The power button trick didnt work.
one additional thing i did notice that with only one or the other, batery or ac plugged in,holding down the power button will power down the machine completely..i can hear the hard drive spin down and the machine will reboot...i'm looking for a way to have windows say " it os ok to shut off your computer " at windows shutdown so i can use the power button and see if that works.
