Problems with s video. TV not connected

#1 Post by Jermaine Brown » Tue Mar 24, 2009 3:03 pm

System: IBM Thinkpad T41p
OS: Windows XP service pack 3

I am trying to set up s video so I can watch internet tv through my laptop on my regular TV. I have a S video to RCA cable.

I am following the instructions found here... http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... 5.html#ati

When I click the ATI Displays tab (#5), It shows that the TV is "Not connected". I have connected the s video to rca cable properly and I have also restarted the machine. Nothing works.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks

Have you switched the TV on?

Assuming you have turned on your TV, have you gone through the menus on the TV to see if it set up to receive input from your T41p? I ask this because many TVs require you to specify the input source.

The reason I asked this is that the T4x needs to see something connected to the s-video out before it will register an output. Usually the physical connection is sufficient as the TV is on "standby" and the inputs are actually powered or at least show an impedance that is recognised by the T4x's output circuits, but in some cases it may need to have the TV switched on.

The TV is switched on :) . There is an input button on the TV that I use the switch the input source when I need to watch a DVD. I did the same for the laptop. The video cards setting---> advanced ---> displays tab still shows that the TV is "not connected".

Any ideas

Thanks

You said this is a S-Video to RCA cable.

1. You did this because the TV has no S-Video input?
2. Did you use the short S-Video to RCS female adapter IBM/Lenovo provide?
If not, Can you post how the two ends of the cable are wired together?
3. Did you lug the RCA into Video inputs or Component Video inputs?

They did? I had to buy mine off e-bay! Only a couple of bucks and it worked fine with an RCA video cable into my TV's Video-In socket.

Essential purchase for my number 1 daughter who plays DDR on the computer/TV.
