T43 screen won't fully light up

On my T43, my monitor isn't fully lighting up anymore. However, one thing I noticed is when I press the "button" that the monitor pushes when you close the monitor that turns off the monitor power to it to save energy, the screen doesn't actually shut down anymore. Moreover, when i release teh button, i get a flash of the monitor at its proper brightness. I put the laptop on external monitor and it worked fine. This has been happening for a few days now but before today, i would just push the button,release it, and it would pop back to its normal brightness. Now i can't get it to go back to its normal brightness. Any ideas as to what could be going on? Thanks!

If the LCD does give full brightness, I would try replacing the inverter board first.

On startup does the LCD exhibit a reddish tint?

Your backlight could be failing.

What is the screen size and resolution?

If there is any warranty left this would be covered.

On startup its immediately dim, i can't see a tint even if its there. The screen size is 14.1" and resolutions... 1400x1050 or so I believe, i'm not entirely sure. The model was 2686 E7U. I'm going to just purchase another one off ebay as a replacement, $200 more for the same system working (if it is indeed the inverter) hopefully

Most likely the inverter. Just did a dell with the same problem....was the inverter.
