X31 is running hot with Ubuntu 8.10. Fan not running.

#1 Post by Mr-Pacman » Fri Mar 27, 2009 12:13 am

I've read on various websites about the X31 fan not running with Ubuntu.

Does anyone have a link to a tutorial on how to install the fan control software? I'm new to Linux so if someone has a link to step by step instructions that would be great.

Also, is there a utility that can tell me how hot the computer running?

Thanks
James

For monitoring (not fan control) from a console;

sudo apt-get install gkrellm

Start gkrellm and go into config. There you will find onboard temp sensors, check to enable them. There should be one for fan rotation too.
