T61p with Ultrabay slim hdd adapter freeze
T61p with Ultrabay slim hdd adapter freeze
I have a T61p with turbo memory running vista basic 32bit. I am having issues with ultra bay. when I put an hdd to use it as a 2nd hdd for storage, I would remove my cd/dvd drive with the add/remove feature. Then I put in the ultrabay that is an 80gb seagate for storage. the computer reads it, but when I restart the computer afterward it boots and hangs. Sometimes it loads to desktop, but I cann't go in explorer to view my hdd. Does anyone have this kind of issue. Is there a way to install it without it having to freeze when it loads windows? I've been reading a lot trying to find a correct answer, but no luck.
Re: T61p with Ultrabay slim hdd adapter freeze
Is the ultrabay drive bootable (ie does it have a bootable OS installed on it)? Have you tried removing the turbo memory (until you can diagnose the problem)?

Re: T61p with Ultrabay slim hdd adapter freeze
The HDD in the ultra bay drive is not bootable. it is an empty drive for storage only. I do not know how to remove turbo memory. I really want to use the Ultra bay, but it lag my computer once I go to desktop, and the light on the ultrabay keeps staying lit, and my computer just froze there. I have to remove it or do a hard restart by pushing the power button because the computer wouldn't resopnd to anything I click on. If I remove the ultra bay and put back the cd/dvd drive everything works fine. Sometimes it works ok, but sometimes I restart or turn on the computer it would freeze on boot, or when it loads to desktop the light just stays lit, and the computer would not respond.
the problem is similar to this http://forums.lenovo.com/lnv/board/mess ... d.id=29672
But the hdd works fine on an external enclosure. I don't have any HDD errors.

Re: T61p with Ultrabay slim hdd adapter freeze
I have a T61p running Vista and used to have turbo memory problems all the time until I downloaded the latest drivers from the Intel site. (not the ones from Lenovo)
Re: T61p with Ultrabay slim hdd adapter freeze
I've read on some forms that the ultra-bay slim would be best if put in a caddy and put in the ultrabay. On mines all I did was put a bare drive into the ultrabay, and put it into my thinkpad. Could this be an issue with the HDD contacting with the metal sheet of the ultra bay? The only problem is when I am using vista on the primary drive, and use the ultrabay as storage. It will sometimes hang on boot, and will hang upon once it loads to desktop. I cannot click on my computer because it would freeze because the HDD lights on the ultrabay stays lit, and computer will not respond to other tasks if I click on it. So the whole computer just hangs and freeze. Only way is to restart by pressing the power button. I don't know how to remedy this problem. Anyone have success using it on similar specs.
Thinkpad T61p T7500 6459cto 15.4in
1GB Intel Turbo Memory
Seagate 200GB HDD (primary) Upgraded hdd, have vista 32-bit basic on it.
Ultrabay slim- Want to use 80GB Seagate as storage only on it. This came with my custom laptop.

I bought an ultrabay after I purchase my laptop in Dec 2007. I only use it sometimes, but results are the same under vista and xp. If I had an os on one of the HDD and put it in my laptop ultrabay. I can boot from it without problems. The problem is when I use vista and use this as a storage. It would hang when I remove my cd/dvd drive and put this in. It will install when I hot swap. I restart the computer afterwards, and it hangs on booting vista, or it would sometimes freeze after it goes to desktop. If I remove cd/dvd drive and turn off my computer and put in the ultrabay, and turn it back on. The same thing would happen either way. I got frustraded with it and just put the hdd in an enclosure and plug it to usb. But I really want to use this since I don't use cd/dvd drive as much. thats why I bought this in the first place. I don't know how to fix this issue.

Re: T61p with Ultrabay slim hdd adapter freeze
I am still having problems with this issue.
I updated the drivers to the latest one. Using Intel Drivers
I read so many issues about ultrabay hdd, but haven't found the correct way to make this work without it freezing.
I disabled aps and the hdd hybrid power saver.
I have the latest bios from lenovo.
I am running vista 32-bit basic. With turbo memory. I didn't disable it. I don't know how to do that.
I have the ultra bay slim adapter to put an extra hdd, but it keeps freezing on boot and will not load windows because the hdd light would stay lit and not move to boot windows. If I take it back out and put in the DVD/CD drive, it works like normal again.
I would like some experience help with this since I don't want to lug around an external usb. All my hdd is ok, but any of them that I put in to the Ultrabay would freeze on boot, or in windows. Pleas help me.
