Hey all,
I'm thinking of getting an X40 (2386) soon and am wondering whether it can be run through the mains without the battery installed. Is this a sensible/recommended method of using the laptop (at home, for example) without sacrificing the battery's life so quickly.
Thanks,

Running X40 without battery
Hi Ad,
I've often wondered this too. There are various schools of thought on battery care, but something that may be worth noting..
Many poeple say that certain types of battery like to be stored with an amount of charge in them (somwhere in the region of 80%) so, if you're going to be leaving the battery disconnected; perhaps that's something to consider.
There are a few posts on the forum about battery care in general. There are often useful bits of info in the replies. If you haven't viewed them already, give them a look.

Re: Running X40 without battery
Just plug your laptop to the outlet and when battery is on 100% it will use only power from the outlet. Also you can set limits for charging. E.g. by default there is "start chargin when battery is on 97%". Set it to 80% and you can "store" battery inside your laptop.ad wrote:Hey all,

Li-ion batteries are a little bit specific. It doesn't suffer stock very well. The battery capacity is going down a little also during the shelf life. Battery (li-ion) will work with acteptable effectivity for two years or 300 charging cycles (theory). After the two years the capacity is going down and the residual resistance is rising. That's why e.g. your cellular is showing a half battery and suddenly it dies.
Charge 40%(rec.) 100%
Tempreature
0 C 98% (1 year) 94% (1 year)
25° C 96% (1 year) 85% (1 year)
40° C 85% (1 year) 65% (1 year)
60° C 75% (1 year) 60% (3 months)
If you let your battery uncharged for a long time it's the best way to the hell.
Let's go'n'restart
