Who else uses Lotus SmartSuite?
Who else uses Lotus SmartSuite?
I just installed Lotus SmartSuite Millennium Edition 9.8.1 . I think it's the last version they made. Too bad, it seems to be a much better package than MS Office.
Who else uses it? It seems like it should be pretty popular, at least for us cheapskates who still use Windows 9x/2k on PII/III's.
Where can I get Lotus Notes/Domino R5?

Re: Who else uses Lotus SmartSuite?
You are not alone. I use Lotus SmartSuite. 123 seems simpler to use than Excel, and WordPro easier to use than Word. When I send files to people I usually convert them to PDFs (using CutePDF) so nobody knows which word processor I use.

Why keep it a secret?

Re: Who else uses Lotus SmartSuite?
It is not trying to keep anything secret. PDFs are usually much smaller than WordPro or Word files and don't clog the web. Anyone still using dial-up will find it much quicker to download the files.Bookworm wrote:> When I send files to people I usually convert them to PDFs (using CutePDF) so nobody knows which word

According to your signature, you drink booze. That is the only possible explanation for that satement.

Re: Who else uses Lotus SmartSuite?
Sorry, that sounded a little rude. I didn't mean it that way. But what, other than a presidents ego, could be bigger than a .pdf? They take hundreds of megabytes, hours to download, and if dial up users ruled the internet, they'd be illegal. How could a text file, even with fancy fonts and a few pictures, be bigger?
Re: Who else uses Lotus SmartSuite?
@Bookworm, That wasn't very rude ... just an amusing post. Actually, I enjoy alcoholic drinks only in moderation.
I had one word file that was 24Mb and it was reduced to just over 5Mb when converted to PDF. Some small word files become expanded. A file of 281Kb converted into a PDF of 287Kb.
Perhaps we are both correct.

Re: Who else uses Lotus SmartSuite?
As for converting docs to pdfs I believe the size of the output file also depends on what pdf converter one uses. I use the one included in Adobe Acrobat Pro and it always add lots of stuff (like fonts, security policies etc.) to the pdf, so the converted file is always (and sometimes by far) larger than the input doc file (this doesn´t always hold for other file types though). My understanding is that other pdf converters doesn´t add that much "stuff" to the pdf file, hence the output from a doc file could be indeed smaller in size. I don´t have experience with any other doc-pdf converters though.

Ok, forget PDF's for now. Where can I get Lotus Notes?
Re: Who else uses Lotus SmartSuite?
AFAIK, Lotus Notes is not freeware (unlike Lotus Symphony) -> IBM Lotus Notes - How To Buy[/u]. BTW, there are also trials of Lotus Notes and Lotus Domino available from IBM for download.
Hope this helps,
