T400 Bluetooth Card
I didn't get the card in my T400 when I bought it which...was a dumb idea since now I tether my 3G phone for data a lot. I'm going to try and pickup a 39T0497 and I was wondering if that's going to need an antenna inside the bezel. I wouldn't think so since they can make USB BT units that are the size of a thumbnail but I thought I'd check first.

Re: T400 Bluetooth Card
Any bluetooth module installed in the T6X and later series does not require an antenna. It is built into the module.
Re: T400 Bluetooth Card
And that's probably the reason why it's located in the LCD assembly as opposite to the base where it was in pre-T6x models.Harryc wrote:Any bluetooth module installed in the T6X and later series does not require an antenna. It is built into the module.

Re: T400 Bluetooth Card
Ouch I need to take a better look at the maintenance manual then. Kind stupid to put it up in the screen isn't the bezel thick enough as-is?yak wrote:And that's probably the reason why it's located in the LCD assembly as opposite to the base where it was in pre-T6x models.

Re: T400 Bluetooth Card
It doesn't make the bezel thicker because it's located below the screen, between the left hingie and the LCD cable. It's there in my T60 which has a thin bezel, it's there in other T/R/X6x models including a thick bezel T61, I would be surprised if it's not in the same place on the T400.bobbarker wrote:Ouch I need to take a better look at the maintenance manual then. Re: T400 Bluetooth Card
Yeah maintenance manual says left side below the LCD for the T400.

Re: T400 Bluetooth Card
The module is under almost the center of the keyboard
It does have an antenna behind the LCD panel thou.
I can post a pic if its not clear.

Re: T400 Bluetooth Card
We're discussing a T400 here. You are discussing which machine? It certainly is not a T400.cseufert wrote:The module is under almost the center of the keyboard

Re: T400 Bluetooth Card
I just checked the HMM, the T400's Bluetooth module is most certainly in the LCD assembly and it doesn't have a separate antenna, just like in the 6x series.
cseufert, you are either confusing the BT module with WLAN Mini PCI Express card (which indeed is under the top center of the keyboard and has antennas in the LCD assembly) or with T40 series which had a modem/Bluetooth combo card inside the base (albeit located to the top left corner) with a separate antenna in the LCD assembly.

Re: T400 Bluetooth Card
Hrmm interesting, just had a closer look, its the 56k modem that i mistakenly took as being about the right size and shape for the BT module.yak wrote:cseufert, you are either confusing the BT module with WLAN Mini PCI Express card (which indeed is under the top center of the keyboard and has antennas in the LCD assembly) or with T40 series which had a modem/Bluetooth combo card inside the base (albeit located to the top left corner) with a separate antenna in the LCD assembly.
However in this: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-70429
Bluetooth does not seem to be an option at all.
Edit: Never mind.
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-70425
It does appear to be integrated into the screen assembly.
