R50 internet explorer scrolling slow

A family member gave me their old Thinkpad R50 which the stripped the XP off and reloaded it. I did most of the Microsoft updates as well as the Lenovo updates online but, for some reason I'm having a issue when using internet explorer where when I scroll down or up there is a dragging slowly like when the computer is overloaded with to many things going on. I know when I had another Thinkpad there was a fix for this issue. Does anyone know what it is and where I can find it?
