Will XP PRO support a CD RW
I just got a Thinkpad T43, 1871FU1. I think I'm already a Thinkpad snob. I didn't notice that it didn't have a cd burner in it,I know that I can get the Ultrabay DVD/CD RW to put in it but I need to know if the XP PRO has the necessary programs/ drivers to make it work. Can someone tell me how to check this?
Thanks for any help.

Re: Will XP PRO support a CD RW
Windows XP Pro and Home both have built-in support for burning to CDs.

Re: Will XP PRO support a CD RW
Yup, many T4x's came with them. Because of the GPU issue a lot of T4x's have died and were scrapped out. This means a lot of the Combo CD-RW/DVD drives are laying around and end up eventually on ebay.

Win XP-pro (which came on most of the T4x's) handles the drive just fine. I recommend an excellent freeware program: Imgburn http://www.imgburn.com/ -this is awesome and really expands the basic functionality of burning disks.

Thanks for the reply's, I will get one off ebay and try it. OK I'm more of mechanical guy but would like to learn more about the magical workings of the computer. What is this GPU you speak of, is this something I overlooked in my research for a laptop
, is it something I need to be concerned about?
Thanks for the help.

Floyd, GPU is Graphics Processing Unit. You have a T43 1871 so you are not affected by GPU problems.
