Bluetooth vs Outlook 2003

#1 Post by keithsketchley » Mon Mar 30, 2009 1:05 pm

The Bluetooth 5.1.0.3500 update caused Outlook 2003 to hang, fortunately on the second occurrence Outlook fingered the “send to Bluetooth” add-in and offered to disable it, which stopped the problem.”

In general I am not happy with quality of the Broadcom software that IBM/Lenovo chose for wireless networking.

And I don’t see why there needs to be a send-to-Bluetooth add-in for Outlook, because email is an Internet function and Outlook should only have to care about IP addresses not be path-dependent.

There can be several paths from Windows applications to the Internet, including DUN (wired or cellular path), wired LAN, wireless LAN (such as WiFi, WiMax, cellular data, Bluetooth), and more in the future, which will have _some_ differences that should be handled in path hardware (modem/radio) or one layer up from that by the o/s. (For example, DUN over wireless must be tolerant of dropouts from cellular site handoff whereas POTS in Canada+US has few dropouts.)

This function probably doesn't send over the phone's Internet connection but rather send the message to the phone itself, a functionality defined by the Bluetooth specs.
