annoying soft bell sound emitted from T60p close to fan

#1 Post by voirin » Tue Mar 31, 2009 4:30 am

Hi, I hope someone can help me out with a problem I have with my T60p (2623-DDU).

The laptop emits a periodic gentle bell sound every 4 seconds. The source of the sound is located close to the fan area of the laptop (i.e. the ESC key). It is an ever so slight sound and is clearly audible when one is postured normally at the laptop. Although it is a soft sound, it is most annoying due to its periodic nature. It sounds almost crystal-like in nature. It still emits the sound when I power up the laptop without logging into XP.

I did send the laptop to IBM to check out, but all they did was say they got rid of the sound by reinstalling XP for me. To me this is a clearly ridiculous solution and was made evident when I got my laptop back with it still emitting that bell sound.

Is there anything I can do about this? Could it be a dysfunctional piezoelectric within the unit? Has anyone else experienced this?

Any help on this is most appreciated.

Cheers,
voirin

This can be either a pulsing fan or a sound that comes from c4 state. If your notebook goes to c4 state (from c3state) to increase battery life, there is this silent sound. You can disable that in rmclock by deactivating the two options in Advanced CPU settings > chipset > enable popup mode, enable popdown mode.
