Thinkpads Visa Listings search pricing tool

#1 Post by nicpottier » Thu Jan 27, 2005 9:41 pm

I'm likely going to get a T42 or 43 sometime in the near future and wanted an easier way to track the price changes and configurations, so I spent an hour to write up quick scraper and search tool.

It can be found at:
http://nic.trileet.com/tp.php

It will pull prices daily, displaying the most recent 3 days worth of pricing data and highlighting price drops. (obviously since I just put this up there isn't any such information)

You can also filter the listings by search terms at the top.

Did this for my own use, but if somebody else finds it useful then so be it. No guarantees of it staying up, it's accuracy or otherwise.

Cheers,

-Nic

Nice piece of work, but where are you pulling the prices from, just IBM? You should consider checking with some other sources for prices on the non-Express models, particularly with Bill, our host here in the Forums.

Ya, these are stricly being pulled from the IBM visa site.

Agreed that Bill seems to have great deals on the higher end models (though an email from me asking for some pricing yielded no reply?), but it also seems like the best deal is had by talking to him.

So I would suggest using this to figure out a baseline of what you want and can afford and to see what the pricing trends are, then giving Bill a call to see if he can get you an even better deal.

I think it's fantastic for those of us who just ordered and want to watch for any price drops within our 30 days. Since they removed the List prices from the main IBM site, there's no way to see the price of the models that are listed in the TABOOK, but not "available" to order on the website.

THANKS!!

I also just put in an order, and have a note to myself to keep checking the prices. This will make it easier.

Now improved with case-insensitive search and spaces as delimeters for terms. Glanced at some logs and saw that people were (rightfully so!) not getting any hits for logical queries because of the two above issues.

So queries like:
fingerprint 14.1
2378fvu

Will now work.
