Help Me find the "Right" T42

#1 Post by CHood » Fri Jan 28, 2005 1:13 am

Pentium 1.8 or better
128mb FireGL
Bluetooth
14.1 inch display
Prefer 1GB of RAM but 512 is min

Don't need DVD burner or a HD over 60 (infact a 7200 60 sounds nice)

Anyone know of one on sale that might be suited for me?

Thanks

Check out the TABOOK linked here:

For your desired specs, I'd look at a T42p 2373-GVU. This minimally fits all your specs, although the 512meg of ram is on the low side of what you wanted. That can be easily fixed with about a 100 bucks at crucial.com.

Or, you go with the KUU which is the same as the GVU, but has the 2.0ghz dothan and the Intel wireless instead of the IBM wireless.

Unfortunately, to get the 1 gig ram built in, you'll end up with the DVD burner whether you want it or not. I believe one of the newest T42ps (with the 2.1 Dothan) only has a CD burner with the 1 gig, but its priced significantly higher.

Just depends on how much you want to spend.

buying extra ram from ibm is way too expensive. i downgraded the RAM to 512 (which also allowed me to look at wider range of models) and then just bought a 1GB stick separately and also saved $100-200,

Here's a listing of ones that match your specs:

Save for the 1.8+ that is, though I don't think that's really a big requirement.

The GVU seems like the best deal for what you are looking for, and currently goes for $2207 if you have a Visa.

A close second would be the GRU for $70 more with a recordable DVD.

Both have 3 year warrantees.
