t43 with fresh install of XP issue

#1 Post by chemicalxx112 » Fri Apr 03, 2009 10:50 pm

I've tried my luck with Google. I've searched this forum, but with 300+ pages don't have enough time to look and the search didn't provide much help. Probably because i didn't use good enough keywords.
My problem is after i formatted and reinstall XP, the keyboard doesn't function with all of the "Fn+keys," the track point doesn't work for scrolling, it doesn't go to sleep when i close the lid, and no audio. I've installed all the drivers on the IBM website for the t43. There was a program for USBs to resume from sleep but nothing to make the machine go to sleep. I was wondering if there was something i was missing. I've noticed that the IBM programs that came with the laptop wasn't on the website, is it because of this?
Much appreciated if anyone could help.

Did you save a copy of the IBMTools folder? If so it contains all the drivers and apps for your machine. You could try those.

It was infected with a virus, i couldn't get anything off and couldn't connect to the internet so i had to format.

Perhaps if you post in the Marketplace forum, someone has a set of recovery discs at a more reasonable price than Lenovo will charge you, which would be $45.

I believe there is also some partial order for the driver installation. Important drivers here would be:
1. Intel chipset driver
2. ACPI driver (Power Management driver)
3. UltraDMA IDE driver
4. SATA Power Management driver
5. Hotkey driver
6. Anything else..
(as far as applicable)

Cheers,

Marin

Have you run IBM's System update? I've reinstalled fresh XP on a T40 and had some of those same problems (hibernate, Wifi, dunno about Fn) and after running System Update and downloading hte recommended (and sometimes optional) updates, I was fine. I think I really had to mess around a bit with the video diver - but that was on a T42 that the son decided he wanted to move his HDD to (from a T40) without re-installing XP.
T30 2366-61U dead mobo
T30 2366-81U still works but not being currently used. I think I'll rectify that situation.
T40 2373-19U dead
(2) T42 2373-JXU with Flexview LCDs. One with either GPU or southbridge issue.
T43 2687-D4U with possible software problem. Awaiting R&Rs.

It doesn't work any longer, unfortunately.

the function keys require multiple packages aside from the drivers including: hotkey features (volume etc), power manager (F3), access connections (F5), presentation director (F7), easyeject etc.

the ultranav driver is required for trackpoint scrolling

most of the old IBM software on the original T43 image would still be available deep down on the lenovo web site, but for the most part, Lenovo ThinkVantage apps are the same thing, but just rebranded and some with new GUI's

the packages would need to be downloaded manually off the Lenovo site as TVSU is no longer available

System Update is just pulled offline for right now. There should be either an update or a new version released in May. I have to admit that this was a very poor decision on Lenovo's part, but it was there decision nonetheless.

Marin85 has pointed out the names of most of the programs that you need to get the features that you are looking for to work.

In lieu of that, I can send you a copy of my T43 recovery disks, for a relatively low cost.

All my hotkeys work and here is what I have installed:

- Power management driver 1.52
- Power manager 1.51a
- SATA power managment driver 1.03
- Hotkey driver 2.10.0002
- System interface driver 1.01.0805

I installed them in roughly that order, by downloading the install pkgs directly from the Lenovo site. I believe this is everything needed to get all the hotkeys working.

Just a side note: Lenovo System Inteface driver is only for Vista OS, it doesn´t apply to XP.

EDIT: I have to correct myself, Lenovo SI driver is not only for Vista, but also applies to XP too. Just looking at the driver matrix for T43/T43p was misleading.

Thank you everyone!!

I have mostly everything working, except the track point, which worked then didn't and the Fn+keys. :(
But not to worry, i don't use them that much. What i needed to work are now working.

I didn't know you had to install the drivers after you install the drivers. Its a two step process, my other computer didn't require this, first time I've experienced it. :(

I was running XP. Hopefully Win 7 when it comes out, I've heard great things about it.

I guess you mean that you had to unpack the drivers and then install them from within the corresponding folders. :)

No, actually not. In the driver matrix of T43/T43p it´s only Vista mentioned (whereas XP is mentioned for most other drivers throughout). The description (after clicking on that link) says though "Lenovo System Interface Driver for Windows Vista and XP - Notebooks". I appreciate your irony...
