Battery Woes! Which to Choose?

#1 Post by Immortal LuD » Sat Apr 04, 2009 11:34 am

Hey guys!

I am having troubles with my 6600mAh 9-cell IBM battery. It's only got 155 cycle counts on it, being manufactured in 7/16/2004. It's currently holding a 15.06Wh, which the other day it was around 40Wh before I did the battery gauge with the Lenovo software. (Argh!) The thing is miscalibrated for sure, and I can't seem to fix it. Do you guys have any tips to see if there's any life left in this thing?

I'm looking to buy a new 6-cell and 9-cell battery on eBay, but I'm seeing too many types and brands. I don't know if I should jump to one of these 7200mAh batteries, or just stick to a 6600mAh.

Should I expect about two and half hours with the standard 6-cell, and around four with a 9-cell? Thanks for any help. Price isn't an issue, but I don't want to spend over $75-$85.

Right now the 9-cell weighs a lot more than I remember my 6-cells, but I do want the battery life. I just can't choose between the thousands available!

Look for those spare battery that lost the computer posts. These may be used but generally only have a few cycles. Start looking with less requirements is always easier.

Try the scratch'n'dent batteries at Lenovo. Most people have had good luck there and you can't beat the price.

Do the scratch the dent batteries on the Lenovo Outlet site have many cycles on them? Used much? I've never seen these before, but you're right. The prices are just awesome!

I'm ready to place an order. I just don't know if I should pay more for one from eBay, or just stick to these. I imagine these are IBM/Lenovo OEM batteries too, right?

They are supposed to be new or almost new, but with cosmetic defects that prevent them from being sold as new. Often people mentioned that these defects were virtually unnoticeable.

I was reading a thread or two about some good/bad experiences with ordering from the website about long shipping delays, etc...

I'm not in a rush, so no biggie. My 9-cell holds about 40-50 minutes.

I see there's two different batteries on there, one referring to T40/R50 series, and then another for T/R/W, etc... Do these both work in my T43p?

No, only the one specifically mentioning T40/R50. The other (T/R/W/Z/SL) is for T60 and newer models.

That's what I thought! Haha! I had the wrong ones in my basket, and even had my credit card info put in, and just didn't finish the checkout until I heard back from you guys! Whew!!!

Ok. Now I know! Thanks so much! I'll order the 9-cell. They just don't say if it's the 6600mAh or 7200mAh. The official IBM/Lenovo's are only 6600mAh I believe, no?

My battery is a Lenovo-branded Sanyo battery with a 7200 mAh capacity, so I assume the one you just ordered would be as well.

I ended up buying a 7200mAh 9-cell off eBay for like $60 brand new. I'll see how it works out!

I just bought a 9-cell from the Lenovo outlet for $46.xx shipped(MA 5% tax charged). Hopefully it will be like-new.

I can't say enough good things about my scratch-and-dent experiences. All of my orders arrived in about a week to a week and a half. My T4x 9c batteries were both new without cycles. One didn't report a full charge correctly, but the battery conditioning through Thinkvantage took care of it. Niether look any different from a factory new battery. My X61t cases that arrived today from the Lenovo S-N-D Outlet are also perfect as far as I can see. I know there are some horror stories about the Outlet, but these are just my personal experiences...

finally received my scratch and dent 9-cell battery for my t40 that i ordered on the 16th. the scratch ended up being a tiny white scuff on the case that i was able to remove by rubbing my thumb across it for 10 seconds, not that the scratch would have been visible in the first place once the battery was installed! the specs:

cycle count: 0
first used date: aug 2008
full charge capacity: 81.30 Wh
design capacity: 77.76 Wh

i am quite happy with my purchase.

Here's a quick question... where are you finding the T4x batteries on the Lenovo outlet? I did a search for batteries(I'm looking to pick up a 9-cell and an Ultrabay soon) and couldn't find any listed. Am I missing something? :??:
ThinkPads:T21(retired), X200(retired), T500(busted) T400(retiring), T430(upcoming)
Other: Dell Precision M6700(desk hog)

the scratch and dent batteries have been cleaned out by the horde from slickdeals/fatwallet.

perhaps in due time, Lenovo will accumulate more inventory.

Is there a way to revive a completely dead battery?

The battery does not charge but looks to be in good condition, exterior wise.

TIA
