A big Hello to all and a small question

#1 Post by S!NGH » Sun Apr 05, 2009 4:27 pm

Hi
I own 0761-3pg since April2006.
Now I feel like replacing 80gb hdd with WD 250 and upgrade to Vista.
Is hdd a straight drop in and then run recovery CDs or a complex thing for an computer illitrate. I did RnR once and am confident.
Also, I want to make partitions on my hdd so that in case of viral infection, I have only to do C:/ only, instead of whole RnR.
I've got XP pro and Vista Ultimate.
Thanks in advance for your support.

First of all, welcome to the forums -- and sorry about the slow reply.

Yes, you can simply install a new, empty hard disk and then run the recovery disks to install the operating system. You can then connect the old drive using an external USB housing to copy over your data from the old drive to the new one.

The recovery disks don't support creating multiple disk partitions, though. If you use the recovery disks to install the OS, you'll need to use another tool, such as Partition Magic, to resize C: afterward and to create another partition.
