I don't know if this topic has been done before. I didn't know what to search or even what to call it.
I thought it is hibernating but I'm not sure. When I went into the Properties/Control Panel for the 'Power Options', it is shown that 'Hibernation' is turned off. The Screensaver checkbox is also not checked!
So, what is going on?!?
After a while of inactivity, the screen goes black. Nothing I do turns it on. So, I just randomly press buttons (what else can I do?!?). I discovered the power button is the only one that makes the screen come to life. The screen shows the 'Administrator' icon and I have to click that for the screen to resume to the state/status (i.e. whatever was showing last) previously. I assume this is an energy-saving function but I am concerned about the method to 'waking it up.' I would rather press a different button but I can't find any settings for why it's the power button that wakes the screen/computer up. I just bought this Thinkpad and I'm obviously not used to 'screen savers' or whatever it is that has a notebook 'go to sleep' and conserve power. I was using it plugged in so I don't really need this feature turned on? I would like to have some 'authority' or control (better word to use) for this, though, rather than just disabling it outright, maybe?
Perhaps, this feature might help save the life of the screen? Or no?
I really would like to know if I should try to change the setting and if using the power button as a wake-up function is potentially bad for the battery.
Thanks in advance for any help and/or comments.
I know I must sound like a dummy but really, I don't use a screen saver and when i looked at the Power Options in Windows XP Pro (what's installed), I found the options/settings not intuitive at all. I am not even sure what the settings are that have the laptop behave in the current manner described.

Yes, blanking the screen save the CCF backlight life.
If your computer is going into Standby, the "moon" LED would be lite. Fn+F4 should bring the screen back.
