How do I get a more recent build

#1 Post by Nubulin » Thu Apr 09, 2009 12:59 am

Like a lot of folks, I have the 7000 build public beta. I read all over references to buils 7xxx and the changes, etc. Specifically the exchange server issue was supposidly fixed in build 7022.

How do I get a newer build? Technet seems to only have the original beta (at least from the date posted). I know the RC is coming out soon for technet subscribers, but when?

I am not a fan of bittorrent, so is there a legit way?

Thanks!

You can either grab a newer build from a Torrent site, or wait for the Public RC.

If you go to a torrent site, watch out. Lots of stuff on there is modified/patched crap.

Try to get an untouched ISO with an MD5 hash posted.

So who gets a legit copy? So many people talk about build X, but I doubt people are hijacking it from Microsoft. People must be getting legit copies somewhere.

Those who Microsoft selected to participate in the closed beta program for Windows 7.

I agree, without a doubt. There is no appeal for me, to risk using a torrent site only to pickup a copy that's a mashup.
After a short stint with Vista I've returned to XP. With WIN 7 being imminent, I will wait for the RC. Then I plan to dedicate one of my ThinkPads to it, wipe the drive, do a clean install and dive in. Oh what an adventure that promises to be....heh!

I'm running 7000 on my T43p, and couldn't be happier. Seems to perform much better than XP Pro did! I'm loving the GUI more than ever, but the performance is unbelievable.

I'm downloading 7077 now, but I'm unsure of the changes. All I know is that the 7000 build expires on 7/1/09.

I don't know if posting websites is against the forum rules, so I'll just say that it's easy to get these things by using Google. Good luck, and enjoy!

I have a Live ID and a registered partner, but in both IE and Firefox the site tells me I am not authorized to view that.

Is it because I am running Build 7100 (From MS yesterday, not a pirate copy)? I doubt my build number is the issue.

I can view TechNET articles and do all the time. So, got an alternative link or PDF of the thread? I'd be really interested in what is posted there.

That link may have been deleted with the public release of build 7100. I believe the information in the following link is basically the same. At any rate, the previous link was pointed to, and I believe written by the same person. On the "Microsoft" Windows 7 forums, the adminstrator Ronnie Vernon would not allow any posts related to interim builds. He immediately locked them and included the previous link for a reference as to the reason why. I haven't really checked those forums in the last several days (since build 7100 was released to the public) to see what Ronnie Vernon links to now. I did find the following though, on a quick look.

I'm running W7 rc build 7127 x64 on my T61p. It's simply incredible. Feels like a fully finished product to me.

The only Lenovo stuff I put on besides what Windows Update put on automatically was Hotkey drivers, the beta Thinkvantage Active Protection driver, and Power Manager, mainly to get some control over battery charging parameters, which I'm not yet sure is working. Windows update loaded a really great display driver that is giving me excellent gaming performance in COD4.

And everything else is working great. Nothing is flagged in device manager. I can access BT and the wireless radio with FN-F5 and most key combinations seem to work.

I've loaded up all my programs and my laptop is running faster than it ever has. There's no going back to vista for me now.
