Laptop starts up to blank screen with status lights and fan

just the other day my laptop had the infamous symptoms of booting to blank screen w/ only status-lights and fan. no bios beeps or anything. I read that this might be due to cold solder on the chipset or GPU. I tried heating it up over a heater (the sort that looks like a radiator and works sort of like a radiator), but to know avail.

Does anyone know any good ways I can tell where the issue lies?
Does anyone know where I could get a good price on X31 or X32 (preferable) mother board?

any help would be appreciated.

EDIT: I tried heating up the board for a good long time with a hair-dryer. Same issue once reassembled. What else could this be?
for the record, it seems that after boot, the processor and chipset heat up, but not the GPU or RAM. I have already tried reseating the RAM, and using different RAM multiple times, and most of my heat was directed at the GPU.

I would do a barebones test with everything removed except a single DIMM, then see what happens.

I actually did that, and got the same blank screen with status lights. the processor and chipset heated up, though.

I guess so... anyone here happen to have a good deal on an X31 or X32 mb? preferably X32.

I have a X32 motherboard being shipped to me now. 1.8ghz Pentium M.
