X31 and PCI-Graphic Card in Dock II

#1 Post by shadowlight » Fri Jan 28, 2005 2:13 pm

Hi!

I have a X31 2672-PEG with WinXP Pro and for some gaming I would like to combine it with my ThinkDock II and buy a PCI Graphic Card for it.

Please no comments, that this is not the right gaming solution - I like to use existing hardware instead of buying new one, because I don't play so often.

Reading all the topics in this forum I've got the impression that some of u are allready using such a combination.

My thoughts and questions to find the right card:

- Which one is better: NVidia 5200 or Radeon 9250?
Is it better to use an ATI-card to prevent possible fighting between the
NVidia-drivers and the original IBM-drivers?
- How works the driver changing? PCI-drivers docked and IBM-drivers
undocked?
- Will the card be cooled sufficiently?
- Which card and drivers are you using? What experiences did you made?

Right now I'm looking for a Club3D Radeon 9250 PCI 128 which is available and cheap. The PowerColor is announced but not available.

Best wishes

PCI Graphics card on x31

#2 Post by raggar » Fri Oct 28, 2005 2:44 pm

hi, i just found your post because im planning to do exactly the same. Im thinking of an ati 9250.

only problem would be to find a docking base that fits a pci card for the x31.
anbody can recommend me a suitable dockingstation for the x31 that fits a pci graphics card?

Will the size of the card be a problem? i heard about half height and full height sizes... but am not sure what that exactly means.

so if anybody has an idea or can comment on this itd be great!
