T43 CD drive opens up on its own

Hi

I have T43 - 26686GU, which has a CD RW/DVDROM drive, but lately, the drive
opens on its own, whenever i using laptop.
Also CD / DVD playing is erratic.

I wanted to know if I buy a new DVD RW drive will it work in my laptop given
that it currently has CD RW, do I have to some driver update etc also

No driver updates required if it is a Lenovo/IBM FRU. The best place to buy a used drive is right here on our Marketplace forum. EBay would be another source.

I am on my 4th T43 DRW/DVD, two of which had the "open any time" problem. Fortunately, this was all warranty exchange, and so far the last one works fine. If you get a compatible drive, you will not need any drivers. Your Thinkpad will recognize the drive with no problem.
