Wireless LAN MiniPCI fail to connect
Wireless LAN MiniPCI fail to connect
Hi
I have A31 2652-P5M, there is a yellow exclaimaiton mark on IBM High Rate Wireless LAN MiniPCI Combo Card, I made sure to follow the stops in installing the wirefirm.exe as indicated here
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-40236
and varified that the version is right before moving on.
at this time there was no yellow mark on the name. but after I installed 1awc32ww.exe here http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-41929
I am now having this yellow mark on the name.
how do I fix this?
thx

Re: Wireless LAN MiniPCI fail to connect
It's possible that your card has died; I have gone through several mini-PCI wireless cards on my R31. I also feel that the recommended drivers don't always work very well (the last driver updated for my card was back in 2003,) in a normal environment, and completely crashes in an environment where the WAP operate with 2 or more VAP's (Virtual Access Points). Having changed the card as recently as the spring 2008, I was disappointed to experience connection issues a few months later (either not connecting to, or receiving an IP address from encrypted WAPs, or the occasional system lockup followed by the disappearance of the wireless card from Windows Device Manager) and also because the card (via its drivers) was limited to WEP encryption.
In my frustration and with little to loose I removed the original drivers and uninstalled the hardware (leaving the modem functions alone) and tried a different driver from IBM named "High Rate Wireless LAN Mini PCI combo card driver for Windows 2000 and XP - ThinkPad T30, X30" (file name "wire1i32.exe"). Not only was this firmware more stable then the intended driver from IBM, it also allowed for the use of WPA (PSK only) encryption.
Changing the driver may help, however be warned that there are several FRU’s (part numbers) for the ‘High Rate Wireless LAN Mini PCI combo’ and that this may not help in your case.

Re: Wireless LAN MiniPCI fail to connect
I left the LT off all night and next morning it worked.
Re: Wireless LAN MiniPCI fail to connect
now that all is working, do I need to install the latest updated drivers for the system. I noticed that Lenovo removed the Update Retreiver package which I used just a week ago on anohter LT.
where is the ThinkVantage package? I want to install it in order to update my system drivers all at once.
thx
