[SOLVED] Graphics crashing

#1 Post by Czechnology » Mon Apr 13, 2009 12:49 pm

Hi again! :)

I'm not much of a gamer but when I do, my T400 is giving me a hard time...
Every once in a while, the graphics driver crashes (i guess that's the reason....): game freezes for a second or two, then screen blackens out and sometimes it recovers, sometimes not. This happens pretty much in all (newer?) games I've tried.
After coming back to Windows, there's an exclamation mark in yellow triangle in the notification area of the taskbar.

I've tried all the updates in ThinkVantage and WindowsUpdate but it's still the same.
System graphics is ATI Mobility Radeon 3470 with 256MB. Should I download the drivers somewhere separately or am I doing something wrong with the settings?

Thanks in advance! ;)

Sorry, I cannot help you with some solution suggestion, but I wonder whether you would experience the same problems under Win 7 :? As far as gaming is concerned, Win 7 seems to me more stable (even though the performance in synthetic benchmarks is slightly reduced due to lack of official established drivers and beta development stage).

Guys, maybe you should try modded drivers for the ATI card, they might be more stable for gaming than the default Lenovo ones.

If you are running Vista, you might try the following. I've been struggling with random video crashes and interrupt storms for 2 months or so now on my T500 Vista 64 machine w/ X4500 graphics. When an interrupt storm occurs several things go crazy including HAL, USB, DWM, etc. Open Programs and Features, then click on View Installed Updates, then search for KB954429 (HAL) and KB956388 (USB) and uninstall them. See what happens - shot in the dark I know, but simple to try

The first one is not even installed on my system.
Uninstalling the second one didn't help.

There is an extensive thread on this issue, as well as well an official workaround on the official Lenovo forums.

Good luck ;)

neenee, Thanks a LOT! Installation worked on the second try ( ) but except for one small freeze (pretty much the same as before, but short and without black-out afterwards), I don't get any more problems!
Thanks again :)
