1) It looks like there is some dampness between the different layers inside the LCD screen.
It doesn't look good. Any chance of returning it, or get a discount for the bad screen?
I'm afraid your only option is to replace the LCD.

2) IF there is a supervisor password (SVP) on it, which normally stops you from changing most of the BIOS settings (but you can still look in the BIOS), and you then remove the CMOS battery, the SVP will become active for power-on as well, meaning the laptop now requires the SVP at start up. Putting the CMOS battery back does not change it back.
So be very careful before you remove the CMOS battery. Check your password/security settings first!

3) The only way to stop the orange light blinking, is a) wait till the battery is charged a bit more, or b) remove the battery from the laptop.
Blinking orange: charging an almost empty battery
Steady orange: charging a low-medium battery
Blinking green: charging an almost full battery
Steady green: battery is fully charged.
Lovely day for a Guinness! (The Real Black Stuff)

1) It is possible that there is a defect with the LCD. It is also possible that the display settings have been changed. To check, right-click anywhere on the open desktop (not on any of the icons) and select Properties. This should bring up the Display Properties window. Click on the Settings tab, then click the Advanced button. You should now see the S3 Graphics window. Click the S3Gamma Plus tab and look at the three "dials" at the bottom of the window. They should all be set to 1.00. If not, then this could be your problem. Note their values and then click the Default button. That will return everything back to 1.00. If this does not work, then there could be a problem with the LCD screen or LCD ribbon cable.

thank you very much for fast and full answers, about lcd, unfortunetly i cant return it couse i knew it has such a mallfunction, i thought it will be easy to rapair.., anyway i'll search for some used lcd i try to change it. as for rkawakami advice, i dont think its software problem, couse fog is also in bios and linux live cd. and two more questions about t23;

will there be much differents in cpu fan noise between 866mhz and 1133mhz cpu?

what are for two purple "sticks" near pcmcia slot? couse i dont have them, and just wondering will pcmcia hardware work corectly without them...

I don't believe that I have any 866Mhz T23 systems, but the fan noise between a 1.2Ghz and a 1.0Ghz is not that different. My systems idle at around 50C to 55C. When pushed up to the low 70's, the fan does have some noise but it's not what I consider bothersome.

The "purple sticks" you are talking about are probably the PCMCIA eject levers. To me they are more blue than purple. You probably can use PCMCIA cards without them but you would have to be careful when pulling the card(s) out of the slot.

i even dont know if i ever use something on pcmcia, but if so i'll think about buying this. abut 866mhz, will speedup to 1133mhz be visible during plain tasks like browsing web, listing music, skype, thunderbird? i know rar extraction, compresing movies etc will be a bit faster, but will this additional 300mhz affect overal perfformens much?

Difference in speed between a 866Mhz and 1.13Ghz system would be noticeable for most video tasks; viewing streaming video may be more steady, video editing/conversion would be faster, etc. For general computing tasks like web browsing, email, .MP3 listening, etc. you probably would not notice much difference. The best thing that you can do would be to make sure that you have 1GB of memory installed.

and another; fan is turning on from time to time in t2x, do u think that placing good thermal paste on cpu might couse that it wont spin at all in idle?

Yes, you should be able to use any 14.1" XGA panel from a T20, T21 or T22 with the T23 system, as long as you also use the matching LCD ribbon cable. See the Hardware Maintenance Manual, page 158, for the part numbers:

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... IGR-4UYM3F

I do not know why there are two different LCD ribbon cables (T20/T21 and T22/T23) or exactly what the differences are between them. All I know is that if I were to swap the LCD on a T23 with one from another T2x system, I would also use the ribbon cable that originally came with the panel.

You cannot upgrade the cpu in a T23 from 866 mhz to 1133 mhz. The sockets are different.

The 866Mhz (Intel SL5CF) is in the same package as the 1.2Ghz (SL5CL). The HMM and tawbook lists the 866Mhz Tualatin as being available. In fact, I was wrong about not having a 866Mhz T23; I have a 2647-6KU that I use as a test bed for checking out various T23 parts:

PIII-M 866MHz (512KB), 128MB RAM, 15.0GB HDD, 13.3 XGA(1024x768) TFT LCD, 24x-10x CD-ROM, Modem, Ethernet, TV out, Li-Ion battery, Win2000

The motherboard FRU is 26P8218, which is one that was used for all T23 systems, except for a few 1.20Ghz models.

Apologize for being wrong with the cpu sockets.
