Seven on T42p 2374-WML : softwares !?

#1 Post by BeWog » Wed Apr 15, 2009 1:01 pm

Hi !

I had this laptop few weeks ago and I installed Windows Seven.
Unfortunately, lots of software are not compatible with this OS. I tried to install System Update 3.14 but now, we have to use Message Center Plus but it is not compatible with Seven.

Added to that, i can't use all functions with 'Fn' on keyboard.
For example, few days ago, when I pressed 'Fn + F2', a windows opened and suggested me to lock the session, and now nothing !!
When I press 'Fn + F3' to switch off the screen, nothing happened !
And I would like to have 'On Screen Display' and 'FullScreen Magnifier' so I installed "Hotkey driver", but nothing !

I know that I can't have all of this functions but I need help to find software compatible with my computer and Windows Seven.

Thank you

I have a T42 with the ATI Mobility Radeon 9600. When using Windows 7 beta, build 7000, On Screen Display works for me. I see the OSD for Volume UP, Volume DOWN, Mute, ThinkLight, and Display Brightness. Full Screen Magnifier works as well.

The following Fn key combos work: Fn + F2 (Lock My Computer), Fn + F4 (Suspend to RAM), Fn + F7 (Built-in Display ==> External + Built-in Display switching), Fn + F12 (Hibernate). Fn + F3 to turn on/off Display does not work, but this is because Lenovo does not supply a driver for the ATI Mobility Radeon 9600. The driver for the ATI Mobility Radeon 9600 comes from Microsoft (Windows Update).

I have the following Lenovo packages installed:
Lenovo System Interface Driver
ThinkPad Power Management Driver
ThinkPad Active Protection System
ThinkPad UltraNav Driver
ThinkPad Hotkey Features driver (OSD and FSM)
ThinkPad Intel 2200BG driver for Vista (driver only)
ThinkPad Integrated 56K modem (not tested)

Thank you for your answer.
I installed Lenovo System Interface Driver, and now, I see the OSD for Volume Up/Down, display brightness, ... :thumbs-UP:

I installed "Registry patch enabling USB S3 Power Management". Do you know if it's necessary ?
A last question, I don't have TouchPad, so I don't need to install "UltraNav Driver" !

I don't use my TouchPad, but I do use the middle button of the TrackPoint for scrolling. I installed the UltraNav driver to get that feature. For TrackPoint only systems, there is a TrackPoint driver.

I always have a problem !! When I press 'Fn + F5' for wireless, I haven't got windows. It just enable or disabled Bluetooth !

Yesterday, I had a window and I could choose to enable/disable Wireless and bluetooth.

Why it disappears ?

Thank you

I have had some problems with Access Connections causing this problem. Try uninstalling Access Connections. If you still have a problem, reinstall your Wireless driver software.

I turned off wireless radio but after, it was impossible to enable it !!! I uninstalled driver and reinstall but it's strange... :?

I'll uninstall all (Access Connection and wireless driver) and reinstall all later.

Hi !

I uninstalled then installed Hotkey Driver and keyboard shortcut have already work but actually, it is not work (Fn + F2, Fn+F5, ...)

I notice a service was created : "On screen display"
It just launch this program : C:\Program Files\LENOVO\HOTKEY\TPHKSVC.exe

The service is 'automatic' but when I try to start it I have this message :
  • The On Screen Display service on Local Computer started and then stopped. Some services stop automatically if they are not in use by other services or programs.
Access Connections and Power Management Driver are installed on my laptop.
