600E and 98SE Upgrade - Won't Boot

#1 Post by 1885 » Fri Jan 28, 2005 9:34 pm

I have a 2645 4AU and flashed the BIOS to the latest with no problems. I then upgraded all the drivers from the website in preparation for installing 98SE. I ran the 98SE CD and everything appeared to load fine. But, when restarted the laptop, the ThinkPad post screen comes on and then it tries to go to Windows but just goes to a blank screen with blinking cursor in the top left corner. I tried using the 98 Rescue Disk and can get it to boot into DOS. I may have accidentally deleted some of the upgraded driver files after installing them before running the SE upgrade. Anyone have a solution short of formatting and reloading? My laptop was purchased used and it did not come with any of the original CDs.

I did see one thing that may have caused a problem after rereading all the IBM upgrade suggestions. I uninstalled Norton AV beforehand but clicked Yes to removing shared files. I see the instructions say to click No to removing shared files.
