Does this system type look legit to you?
Folks:
I was recently offered a Thinkpad X61 Tablet at a fairly-good-price. The problem is...I can't figure out whether the machine is legit or not. The seller did not give me an s/n (citing privacy concerns), and the system type looks weird - 7763-DK1. The system type maps to an X61 Tablet, but the subtype (DK1?) seems...odd. I don't see a DK1 type inside the parts listings on the hardware maintenance manual, and without the S/N I can't get the original specs-as-shipped from the factory.
Optimally I would want to know what the specs are, which screen type, which wireless options are built-in, etc. Am I looking at the front end of a scammer here, or is there a more innocent explanation for this?

If a bussiness customer orders, say, 2000 T61 with a certain, non-standard configuration, Lenovo builds these and assigns them a new system number.
BTW, the Lenovo website has the specs: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... ry=7763DK1

Other info about the seller could shed more light.
Are the outside the US?
Will they take Credit Cards, so you can be somewhat protected more than, say, a Western Union money transfer?
How much are you saving vs. using a reputable seller on eBay? Sometimes the minimal savings are not worth the added risk.

You won't see all models in HMM, nor in appropriate xxbook, not for any ThinkPad. From what I'm gathering (mainly because of Custom Tablet Edition) this was a part of a large corporate CTO of some kind...
Seems like a fine machine if you can live with XGA...I couldn't and that's the only reason I sold my X60T which was otherwise a great little ThinkPad...
My suggestion, a rare SXGA+/Core 2 Duo combo from a trusted seller, would be this one:

Hope this helps.

Well...it's CraigsList, and it was more of a spur-of-the-moment impulse buy desire. If I am going to buy it, it'll most likely be face-to-face and in cash. Just want to make sure if I am getting a good machine (or not).GatorHawk wrote:Other info about the seller could shed more light.

Yeah, that's what I was originally looking at - either someone is playing it fast-and-loose with the system types, or it's a custom build order (I dealt with a few T42ps like that before).ajkula66 wrote:You won't see all models in HMM, nor in appropriate xxbook, not for any ThinkPad. Hm - so in regards to the X61ts, how easy (or hard) is it to install a WWAN card and snake an antenna or 2 in? Also, the B6U specs seem to suggest that the screen is a multi-touch. Are we talking about heptic multi-touch like the iPhones, or is this just Lenovo's way of saying that it supports input without a pen?
Also, how much more firepower am I getting out of the unit compared to, say, my current X41 Tablet (which is a fine machine, except the drive is as slow as geological epochs)

Re: Does this system type look legit to you?
My X61t (7764-CTO) just came yesterday, and I was anxious to compare it to my X41t's. I primarily use Illustrator and Photoshop CS4 for graphics on a daily basis and noticed the difference rather quickly. From just an OS standpoint, I could say that one of my X41t's running Windows 7 felt equally as fast as my X61t (Vista H-P). Although it isn't a fair comparison, it did make me feel as though the new OS on the horizon could breathe new life into my aging X41t that will now become my field notebook at work.ragefury32 wrote: Also, how much more firepower am I getting out of the unit compared to, say, my current X41 Tablet (which is a fine machine, except the drive is as slow as geological epochs)
The only downside I see to upgrading the aging hard drive in the 41's (to make them feel fast with Vista) is cost. For the price of a decent SSD and what my backup X41t would ebay for, I found a new X61t.
