Question on Thinkpad T43 warranty

#1 Post by SaberX » Fri Apr 17, 2009 8:33 am

I just picked up a Thinkpad T43 ( 1871-AP7 )from someone here in my town.
The guy said it dident work so his friend took it apart to see if he could see if anything looked out of place.
The T43 looks like it was good and used.Scratches all over it.About 7 out of 10.
I got it with the keyboard off, palm rest off,LCD off.

Question is i just went online to check the warranty and this came up...
Type: Model: Serial number:
1871 AP7 *******

Status: Expiration date: Location:
In warranty 2009-08-13 CANADA

Warranty service upgrades and maintenance services

Description:
This product has a three year limited warranty which includes a ThinkPlus warranty upgrade. This product is entitled to parts and labor and includes on-site repair service. Service is available Monday-Friday, except holidays, with a next business day response objective.
All the parts are there. But i'm going to put it all together again. But when together you will see that the system was taken apart befor. From marks and scratches ,ect.
Question is it worth it to send it in?
Will the warranty still be good even if the system was taken apart by a "no buddy"?

I guess i'll put it all together and see what it looks like then.
I got nothing to loose i guess.Only paied 60.00 cdn for it all.

Update...
I have the T43 all back together.
Beside onle 2 screws holding the keyboard on.Everything look nice.
But if you look at the screws you can tell the system was opened up befor.

So will Lenovo warranty look at a system that has been opened up befor?

Also the system dont show any sings of life at all.
When plugen in , theres no lights , no flashing lights when you hit the power button.Nothing at all.

Edit and Update
I just filled out the online form for warranty.About 1hr later i get a call from them. They got me to try a few things with no luck.
Then he said where the system has "on site" wattanty he will get someone to come out and have a look at it.So i'll have to wait till Monday when he stop's by and see whats wrong and go from there. The guy on the phone said if he cant fix it , he'll send it in then for repair.
This is my first thinkpad with warranty and so far it's great.

Just an update...
I just picked up the T43 i had put in for warranty. The IBM center is only 10 min's away.
The T43 is running great.New system board and he even put on a new keyboard.(old one was missing 2 keys).
They were very helpfull.....

Now i have another question befor i call them again. You guys might be able to save me a call.
About the warranty on the LCD screen.
What will they and wont they cover?

The screen is a little dark with some white spots on it.Like the brightness is about half way down.
Will warranty cover a new LCD because of little dim screen?

They normally don't cover physical damage like scratches or cracks. As for LCD I suppose it depends on how dim ;)

Considering that they replaced your keyboard even though 2 keys were missing I'd take the system back and see if they'll replace the LCD too.

Thanks.Worth a shot i guess...
The guy at the repair center said he dident think Lenovo was going to cover the keyboard. He said it the 2 keys were missing because it looked like someone was trying to take the keyboard off with a screw driver without takeing out the screws first.
But they gave me a new one anyway.
