T61p randomly goes to sleep?!

#1 Post by Liamo0o » Sun Apr 19, 2009 2:10 am

this started happening when I rendered a certain scene in Maya (a 3d CG program) - under duress, even with a 60 dollar cooling pad and the thinkpad fan control program my computer randomly began going to sleep... does anyone know how to fix this ? is this simply an overheating problem? I've been having hardware problems since DAY 1 of getting this computer and have sent into lenovo 5 times, each time they have done less and less to try and rectify the problem (the last two times they simply ran pc doctor, and sent it back... any advice would help because I can really not afford another computer and lenovo support is no help at all

Thank you,
Liam

Is it going to sleep? Crashing? Computer usually does not go to sleep if it overheats - it locks up, crashes or shuts down. The T61p had a known problem in 3D apps with the motherboard (although your problem seems different). PM Mark_Lenovo on this board or check him out on the Lenovo forum. Technically, you have a lemon and if they can't fix it, they should replace it.

Yeah typically the computer crashes when overworked, the sleep problem is a new development... I have called Lenovo numerous times and the only thing they say is to send it in despite me telling them the computer is a lemon. The last two times I sent it in all they did was run PC Doctor, they say that because PC Doctor doesn't come up with anything there is nothing they can do ergo the computer is "fine"
