Replacement Battery Problems

#1 Post by radman » Mon Apr 20, 2009 4:35 am

Hi,

I've got an R50e and about 4-5 months ago I decided I needed to get a replacement battery as the old one had got to the stage where it would only hold 20 minutes power.

So, I looked around and eventually bought one from these people:

http://www.espow.com/wholesale-ibm-thin ... ttery.html

(I didn't actually buy it from this website, I bought it from a different one, but it seems that this company has dozens of branded sites, but that once you've ordered, all the paperwork says espow.com).

Anyway, this first battery had problems charging, and I kept getting an orange flashing battery light on my Thinkpad. So, I returned this battery and they sent me a replacement.

Initially, this one did the same thing as the first, but using the Thinkpads "Recondition Battery Now" facility got it working perfectly. After a couple of months though, whenever I left the Thinkpad on standby with the AC adapter in for more than 8-10 hours I'd get the same dreaded orange flashing battery light. The only way to stop the light flashing was to take the battery out of the laptop and replace it.

So, the seller agreed to send me another new battery. This one does exactly the same thing as the second one - Basically, it works fine unless I leave it on charge and on standby for more than 8-10 hours.

Is this behaviour common with replacement batteries? Does anyone have an idea whether the fault is with my laptop or with the batteries themselves - I've had three now?

I wonder whether the best thing is to just try and argue that all these batteries have been faulty and to get my money back. Perhaps I should just buy a genuine IBM/Lenovo one instead.

Thanks,

Adam.

A friend of mine had a similar problem with a battery he ordered online. He tried to get his money back but didn't succeed. Hope it works out for you
