X60S Battery charger circuit blown ?

Hi all. Any help with my problem would be most appreciated.

• My X60S (1702 37U) is out of warranty.
  My extended battery (the one that sticks out the back) went from 3 hours to zero hours from one startup to the next.
  So rather naively I went out and ordered another battery (smaller and cheaper that doesn't stick out at the back of the laptop housing) . This one also failed to charge.
  The laptop runs fine off the power supply (with or without a battery).

So, reading here and on other forums, I've come to the conclusion that it's probably something on the motherboard that has blown.

If anyone has any ideas as to how I can (cheaply) check this assumption then please, go ahead.

Otherwise, does anyone know of an alternative to motherboard replacement (a new one will cost me about 1000 Euros) which is out of the question, and if so, of a company in Europe that will do this for me if it requires something as complicated as say, soldering, for example.

There is a fellow in a very small one-man computer repair shop on the North side of Avenue de la Republique, 1/3 of the way from Metro stop Republique eastward toward Metro stop Parmentier. I don't know the street number, but his is the only computer repair shop on that stretch of road. The man is an excellent technician and an expert at disassembly/reassembly of laptops. Go to him if you do not find a solution. I am certain he can diagnose the problem correctly, and he can solve your problem if the problem is solvable with soldering ...
