Blue button on front of X3x ultrabase?

#1 Post by DPHMIN » Fri Apr 24, 2009 12:03 am

I recently bought an X31 with ultrabase. There is a blue button on the front left (as you are facing it) of the Ultrabase. When I push the power button to boot up the computer, there is a light just to the left of the blue button that lights up. After the computer begins to boot up, the light goes out, and does not light up again until the beginning of the next boot up.

What is the button supposed to do?

TIA,

It's an undocking switch. When the system is mounted into the Ultrabase and powered up, the LED should be green. It should stay lit, indicating that the laptop has recognized that it's attached to the base. Assuming that you are using Windows, you should be able to click the Start button and see "Undock Computer" as one of the options. If "Undock" does not appear, I would assume that means that Windows or the X31 has not detected the base. Generally, you need to press the button prior to undocking the X31. That puts Windows into standby (or hibernate) mode so that the base can be removed.

edit: If you look closely to the left of the button, there's a "1". Along the left side of the base, right near the Ultrabase release lever, there's a "2" printed there. That's IBM's way of saying that it's a two-step process to undock.
