T60 resolution is stuck to 1024*768 in Winxp :(
Hi,
I just reformatted my T60 and installed xp sp3, but I am stuck with the stupid 1024*768 resolution in true color mode (32-bit)
I have intel graphics driver installed onto this m/c. And I am desperately trying to find out some way to increase the resolution.
Can someone please suggest anything?
Thanks,

Welcome to the forums p007pramod!
Which screen do you have? And are you looking at the resolutions in the Windows display properties, or in the Intel graphics properties?

Unless you have an SXGA+ LCD-screen (1400x1050), you are limited to XGA 1024x768.
What is the 7-character TYPE of your T60?

So does it have anything to do with the drivers installed or this is the max resolution possible for me?

Look for a black sticker on the bottom of the machine: there should be the word "type" followed by 4+3 characters (and then the serial number).
T60 screens came in both 1024x768 and 1400x1050 varieties. It may be that yours is the former ...

That's it -- searching for 1951-29U or 195129U can usually find you specs. In this case, it confirms that your system has an XGA display. Sorry to be a bearer of bad news!
You can find a reference to many the T60 models here:
http://www.lenovo.com/psref/pdf/ltwbook.pdf
Unfortunately the 1951-29U doesn't appear to be listed.

Thanks for your response guys.
I am really sad to admit that I bought a piece of m/c which has a limitation for its LCD resolution.
Really bad!! I wish I had visited this forum before buyin the stuff!

If you got a good deal, you could always try selling it (here, on eBay, on Craigslist, on Kijiji etc) and then buying "the ultimate T60" with the knowledge you gain here.

Re: T60 resolution is stuck to 1024*768 in Winxp :(
Every LCD screen has this limitation. LCD screens have a so called native resolution. You can't go above it and if you go below it, the image will be blurred. That's why it is important to check this resolution while buying a notebook or an LCD monitor and choose a model with exactly the resolution you want to work with.p007pramod wrote:I am really sad to admit that I bought a piece of m/c which has a limitation for its LCD resolution.

p007pramod,
I have a T60 (2623-D6U) with SXGA and am looking for a XGA T60. Are you willing to sell/trade it? PM me if interested.
Thanks!

Re: T60 resolution is stuck to 1024*768 in Winxp :(
Mine is a 2007-64U which *used* to go higher than 1024X768 until I had to get the screen replaced by Lenovo. They said that only the LCD was replaced, not the vid card. I've downloaded updated drivers, uninstalled/reinstalled the ATI utility, and I've been on the phone with Lenovo support so often, but no solution yet, so I started looking around. Any other ideas or workaround?
Thanks,
Dave

Yes, send it back to Lenovo and insist they exchange the LCD for one with the original SXGA+ resolution.drisler wrote: Any other ideas or workaround?
Re: T60 resolution is stuck to 1024*768 in Winxp :(
Thanks goofyGAguy. I called Lenovo support to get a return box because I also have extended warranty. He double-checked the repair order and read thru the technician's notes that said they *did* install the right SVGA monitor and tested it with their clean WinXP hard drive. So he's blaming webex, gotomeeting, skype, or some other 3rd party drivers for the problem. I don't like that answer because even after uninstalling webex & skype components, it's still not working. Essentially, they just want me to run a backup and reinstall the OS. UGH! I've run Registry Mechanic, but no love. Do you know any good utilities that would short circuit that laborious route?
Thanks again!
Dave

Hi Dave, drisler wrote:Do you know any good utilities that would short circuit that laborious route?
I'd use Ghost (preferably v8 or less from DOS) to make an image of the windows partition.
Then you can install a fresh Windows and graphics driver to test the TP's resolution.
When you're done you can reload the original image - of course if a new install cures the problem you don't want to reload...
However I doubt that this is a software issue
Good luck

You can try running a live CD Linux distro and try the different resolutions.
Re: T60 resolution is stuck to 1024*768 in Winxp :(
Yes, just download and burn Ubuntu CD. Don't be scared if you know nothing about Linux, you just boot from it and use the menu on the top. Go to System / Preferences / Display and play around.
