x200s - how to watch video on TV?

#1 Post by ajdedo » Fri Apr 24, 2009 11:57 pm

Hi,

What is the best way to watch video on a TV? Is there a video out or similar on the x200s?

Thanks :-)

Difficult to beat the pure simplicity and perfection of the device shown in the link below. Place the video file(s) on an SD memory card or USB flash drive -- either of which you can do easily on an X200/s -- plug the memory card or the USB flash drive into the device, and the file(s) will play superbly. The unit has the footprint of a credit card, less than 1/2 inch thick.

Note: There are numerous sellers of this device on eBay. If the remote does not look like this one, then the unit has the old chipset, which does not support SDHC cards (i.e., >2GB), has primitive menu navigation, and the video quality could be better. However, this newest version solves all those issues.

Wow, that is very cool. I like it...... Couple question though.

1) Does the device you pointed out work with a USB Hard Drive, or just a USB Flash Drive?

2) You say there is difference between the newer and older models, do the newer ones have upgradable software/firmware?

3) Who is the manufacture?

4) Would something like this work with my x200s? http://cgi.ebay.com/VGA-TO-TV-RCA-S-VID ... 0191013641

Thanks :-)

1) For USB Hard Drive, you need something like this:

..or..

..or.. like this, if internal hard drive is preferred:

2) No.
3) Who knows?!!
4) No -- you cannot convert VGA to TV with a $1 cable ... at least not if you want to be able to watch the output for more than 12 seconds while remaining sane!!!

That is composite out only, though, is it not? If it is, it won't do a very nice job with HD video.

Me, I use a VGA cable from my X200s to my TV (at 1280x720), but that requires a VGA input on the TV, which most TVs unfortunately don't have.
X220 (4287-2W5, Windows 8 Pro) / X31 (2672-CXU, XP Pro) / X61s (7668-CTO, Windows 8 Pro)

Wow, I can't believe how many choices are out there! I think I'm leaning towards an internal drive/player.

Now are all these essentially all the same, or is there some detail in the description I should look out for? Thanks.... :-)
