#1 Post by TJMacGyver » Sun Apr 26, 2009 11:50 am

Hi I'm trying to get GPS working, but when I launch the "Thinkvantage GPS" I just get this every time "Thinkvantage GPS enabler has stopped working"

I haven't got a wwan subscribtion
I'm running windows 7 build 7100 x64 :)
On an X200

I installed these drivers for the Ericsson F3507G: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-70000
And this GPS utility: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-70376

Do you have the other required apps and drivers for the card to function? Do the other ThinkVantage apps work correctly?

You MUST have a working SIM card installed in your F3507G to get GPS working.

Running a beta OS is a poor choice indeed if you want to troubleshoot WWAN hardware based issues.

I've been having the same problems on Vista x64, 2008 x64 and W7 x64.
Use Putty to send commands directly to COM ports, bypassing Thinkvantage GPS.

I got it to spit out data in putty, but I have no Idea how to use the data to anything :)Also it looks like it doesn't get a fix, and I even live on the 4th (top) floor. Is the GPS reception that bad?

Well, the Lenovo GPS utility on my T400 + Ericsson F3507G + Vista Ultimate x64 combo tells me to go outdoors to get a reliable GPS fix, and it sure doesn't work well for me indoors, so I think the answer to that is probably "yes".

The problem appears to be that the location/size of antennas for optimal reception of terrestial WLAN and WWAN signals is not that optimal for the reception of satellite signals, so the GPS capability in a laptop style mobile device involves compromises that dedicated GPS devices don't have to deal with.

Cheers,

Bill B.
