Help with hard drive password

Ok, so my T61P died on me and both the bios and hard drive had a password on them.

I took the hard drive out of the T61P and put it into a T60P. Why is it that the password that I know 100000% for sure is the correct one does not work in the T60P?

Is the password stored on the motherboard somewhere or on the drive itself?

My guess is that one of the machines has passphrase set, and the other machine does not. If that is the case, tell me which is which and I'll tell you what to do.

even with the passphrase set i've had problems unlocking drives from newer models on older generations...... such as unlocking a T400 when inserted into a T60p
