Clone Image on SSD elminating service partition?

#1 Post by dfumento » Mon Apr 27, 2009 2:57 pm

I am getting the 80 GB (really 75) Intel X25-M SSD and I want to "reverese clone" only the "C: " partition and not the service partition with Acronis Trueimage Home 2009 by putting the SSD in the laptop and the hard drive in an external USB enclosure. I do not want the service partition because there is little space on the drive.

I am running Vista Business x86.

My question is that how do I fix the MBR to point to only the "C: " partition?

Do I use the Vista repair CD/DVD disk go into recovery/repair mode and execute the following commands?

bootrec.exe /FixMbr
bootrec.exe /Fixboot

Will this do it?

BTW the 80 GB Intel X25-M is now $320 on http://www.newegg.com

TIA

I had called IBM tech support but initially they were unable to help me until a senior level tech called me back and told me about:

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-70829

which talks about deleting the larger "Q: " partition leaving a 1.5 GB "S: " partition which is fine for me.
