X61T with Windows 7 7100

#1 Post by coolfly » Mon Apr 27, 2009 4:44 pm

I recently install Windows7 7100 64bit. Everything seems fine except the Fingerprint reader. Both Lenovo version and manufacture version (preview for windows7) don't work for me.

Did anyone get success for the device?

I set up Windows 7 RC on my X61s, everything works fine, including fingerprint reader.

To get the fingerprint reader driver working, I had to download the old version of the fingerprint reader (5.8.2.4462) which is on the current software page for the Vista 64-bit fingerprint reader (scroll down to the bottom).

Then, uninstall the 5.8.2.4462 version and download the latest one. When I uninstalled it, I told it not to delete my old settings. Also, the fingerprint software will probably crash when it runs by default. In order to fix this, go to "C:\Program Files\ThinkVantage Fingerprint Software\ctlcntrx.exe" and run that.

Last, I noticed that it would not allow me to log on with the fingerprint. Make sure you edit the system settings in the fingerprint software to allow for fingerprint log-on.

I also just finished a clean install of Win7 RC1 x64. Windows Update downloaded the UPEK fingerprint driver which worked perfectly for me. You have to then go to the control panel (Biometric Devices) to enroll fingerprints and activate the fingerprint login function.

But I am having a problem with the Intel graphics driver. It crashes when running the Windows Experience Index 3-D tests. WEI then fails. The driver that was installed by the Win7 installer is Intel Mobile 965 Express Chipset WDDM 1.1 version 8.15.10.1662. On my prior RC1 x86 install I had the same problem and fixed it by reverting the driver back to the Prerelease WDDM 1.1 driver that was included with the Win7 beta. The new driver also resumes from standby or hibernation with a black desktop instead of showing the desktop wallpaper. This problem also was not present in the beta driver.

Anyone else seeing this on their X61 Tablet?

Problem solved. Today Windows Update offered a newer version of the display driver, version 8.15.10.1713, which has solved the problems listed in the previous post.

Hi everyone,

I am thinking of also installing windows 7 onto my x61T. How is it overall?

I don't know much about windows 7. Does Vista software install fine on windows 7? e.g. office (outlook, word, excel), project, photoshop, skype, trillian, etc.?

how is the 64 bit vs. 32 bit? thanks!

RVD.

I'm running it on my X60T, running very well.

Outlook is no more - download Windows Live Mail, it's a good replacement :)

Enjoy.
