TP600 external microphone malarky ...

#1 Post by SAE140 » Tue Apr 28, 2009 8:53 am

Just spent 2 hours pulling my hair out trying to get an external electret mike to work with a TP600.
Same problem with 3 machines and 2 mikes, so it began to look like a system fault ....

Just did a search here - only one post regarding this:
http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.ph ... one#p53366
But didn't believe the reply given so looked further afield ...

Eventually found the cause of the problem - which can be found at:
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... QZJKZ.html

Seems that IBM in their wisdom have used a non-standard connector - great !

Has anybody solved this problem with a workaround, or managed to source these connectors ?

Ta, Colin

Thanks for the warning. I always wondered why the mic connector was different. This appears to apply to all ThinkPads, not just the 600 series.

The 570 and 600X were some of the first ThinkPAds to use the stnadard connector. For models older than that, IBM did have an adapter available. You could probably find one on eBay.
ThinkPad T60: 2GHZ CD T2500, 3gb RAM, 14.1" XGA, 60gb 7k100, Win 7 Ult
Latitude E7250: i5 5300U 2.3ghz, 12gb RAM, 12" 1080p touch, 256gb SSD, Win 10

No luck with sourcing an adapter, and it's taken for 'forever' to source a decent 4-pole straight jack. (Right-angle jacks are too wide to fit into the socket recess)
If anyone else needs to make-up an adapter:
