Rescue and Recovery on One Disk

#1 Post by senthoor » Sun Jan 30, 2005 10:21 am

I was trying to create a Rescue and Recovery disk on a DVD-RW. I was just playing around with it and looks like it needed 2 DVDs. One for Rescue disk which is bootable and other for the rest of the stuff.

I think just using one DVD for rescue disk that is bootable is waste of DVD space. Anyone who has managed to put everything into one DVD?

Why not using a CD for the Boot disk? Works for me. Though I just have the CDRW Combo drive, if this makes any difference.

Ya I know... I was considering that option. But I thought if there is a way to put everything in one disk its easy for me than having to secure two disk. But if nothing works then I might have to settle for that option

Senthoor-
I'm not familiar with R&R but I use DriveImage to make images.

I am looking forward to receiving a new T42P with the DVD multiburner this week. My planned backup strategy for disaster recovery is to put the entire OS/Programs partition on a single DVD-RAM. It would be great if it was bootable, but as a worst-case scenario I have a USB memory key that is bootable and holds Drive Image and Partition Magic.

Maybe just use a memory key as your bootable source?

Once i get my T42 I am planning on condensing everything that I can onto a DVD, probably my own custom XP SP2 install with IBM's tools slipstreamed in, completely tweaked in advance for the T42p specificly. I don't want to carry around more media than I have too.

I will put up a howto when I get around to this.
