T42P shopping?

#1 Post by slasko » Sun Jan 30, 2005 12:06 pm

Hello

I want to buy a T42P, so should I go ahead and buy it now or wait until T43 comes out regarding pricedrops?

Witch wireless NIC should i prefer, there are a couple like: Intel, Cisco and Athorous or whatever its called?

Is there any difference between pentium-m 755 and 765 beside the speed?

Would a 9cell batteri extend out on the back vs a 6cell?

Oh and does the T42P have ultrabay 2000? Where you can switch the cd-rom drive with a battery?

The T4X series has an Ultrabay Slim (smaller) vs. an Ultrabay 2000, but there is an auxiliary battery available for the new bays also.

The 9 cell battery extends .9" (21mm) out the back of the unit.

I'm waiting for the t43p so it's really your call as the tabook says it's coming out in April.

the 9cell does stick out

i prefer the intel abg card b/c for some odd reason at my house i get 2bars in the garage with the intel card vs the ibm card i get 1-no bars in the garage.
but then that's just me

edit - when i use my linux...i plug in my orinoco card in. as i havent gotten ndiswrapper to work with the abg card just yet.

Correct, you can't use any Ultrabay 2000 accessory internally in an Ultrabay Slim port, they're too thick at 12.5mm for the 9.5mm thick port in the T4X series machine.

It seems that all but one of your questions have been answered, so I'll finish off the inquiries.

As to the difference between the Pentium M 755 and 765, besides speed...there is none. The 755 runs at 2.0GHz and the 765 runs at 2.1GHz; A whopping 5% increase in clock speed :) . Whether you want the faster chip is up to you. If you do really intensive stuff, then the speed might help, but for most normal activities, the 755 should do fine.

Good luck shopping.
