Tried t40 forum but no success

My T40 with windows XP Pro started reporting possible counterfeit windows and went from bad to worse. Tried my recover disks which reformatted but would get part way through about 53% and would say error and continue no further. In desperation took to local repair shop. They reloaded windows (could not get recovery disks to work)and its now working but I have none of the IBM things such as green bar on screen for volume and % battery charge. Have reloaded hot key and power mgt and video driver from Lenovo but still not working. Any simple way to get the IBM "stuff" back without messing up the working os?

Only answer in T40 forum was to reinstall hotkey driver which I did but still no battery charge indicator or volume bar on screen
any ideas??
